Tourandot
So I went to see the opera "Tourandot" last night. It is a Puccini opera taking place in China. There is a beautiful princess named Tourandot who does not wish to marry so she has devised 3 riddles. If a prince can solve the riddles then she shall marry him but if not then he loses his head. Many a prince has tried... and died. So the ice princess Tourandot waits for more death. Then a disposed Tartar prince comes and challenges her. Of course he solves the riddles but Tourandot like the spoiled little princess that she is backs out of the agreement. The prince says that if she can find his name by morning he will die, but if not they will marry. Tourandot commands the city of Peiking to search for the princes name and if they do not find it there will be mass executions. He of course does not yield and Tourandot discovers his slave girl and the princes father. She tortures them to no avail. But the slave girl who secretly loves the prince says she knows his name. So they stop torturing the princes father and the slave girl kills herself with a dagger taking the princes name with her to the grave. Soon morning aproaches and Tourandot has no name. The prince corners her and they have a wicked argument but he forces her to kiss him and low and behold the fridged bitch likes it. So they instantly fall in love and get married. Oh and he tells her his name which is "Love". The End.
Opera..... sigh
I much prefer theatre. But the costumes were spectacular and the singing was good too. It was a nice evening. The Santa Fe opera is an outdoor opera and is absolutely beautiful. The opera was sung in Italian and was a bit shorter than most operas, which is good because I usually fall asleep.
